As a first generation Amrohvi raised in the west I have been faced with numerous challenges while raising my children. The most important of which has been the teaching of “izzat” or respect, particularly respect for ones elders. This has not been an easy task but required concerted effort, since as a family we did not visit “home” often. When one raises a family in almost complete isolation without the inflences of the extended family or of people with similar backgrounds one has to address these types of values knowing that your children are also influenced by there surroundings and the media ( television). Perhaps anyone who has felt this challenge could respond with their experiences.

Have you faced challenges in keeping our culture in the Western world? There are some important values that we cherish and would like our children to preserve.

At the same time, we want our children not to follow bad aspects of our culture.

In my own three children I am pleased to say that they learnt Urdu and are able to communicate with their relatives in India.

I have tried to teach them that being a good Muslim the most important thing is to be a good person, kind and gentle to others.

Helping less fortunate in Amroha is highly commendable. I believe that we should educate women more because “by educatig a women we educate whole family”

These issues are very important. I think this is an excellent opportunity for our community to help our relatives. How has the response been to this activity of AIS?

Health is also extremely important. For this reason AIS is hoping to do the following:
    1. vaccination
    2. TB
    3. eye operations,particularly cataract
    4. Clean Amroha naalees(drains)

    Any other ideas are welcomed.

This topic is very close to my heart.I hope that AIS,with the help of its members, can make a difference. We have commenced our work already. There is no doubt that the best way to help anybody is to equip him/her to help themself. Education is the best way. At present we are targetting those students who are keen on tertiary education but lack fiancial resources.
    Your ideas are most welcome.

How can we help in making life in Amroha more healthy?
How can we help in the education process?
Although Amroha has produced wonderfull poets, learned maullanas and great lawyers, the number is small. Higher education is a privilage for a few.Like to hear of some, ideas that can actually be implemented.

I believe that this applies to me.Raising childen in west is not easy as the dominant culture is so different to ours. But I beleive that culture is evolving thing. So we need to ove with time.
